Smithtown takes everyday items and turns them into something special with their individual and charismatic design. We love this concept and it lends itself perfectly to our Hooked collaborations. We gave The Smith Brothers our Sidewalk Cruiser and the freedom to do whatever they wanted to do without constraint. What a beauty the end result is. - BUZZBIKE -
Buzzbike, from the inventors of the Mini Cooper, provides Londoners with a single-speed, durable yet light bike made for city riding. Buzzbike collaborated with four of the country’s most talented artists, illustrators, and designers to showcase the potential and impact for brands to use Buzzbikes as a creative platform. Smithtown dipped their bike in copper and applied their signature sign writing. The bike was exhibited at the London Design Museum.
- THE HAWAIIAN PRINCE -
Our personal favourite is Smithtown’s Surfboard or Bellyboard called The Hawaiian Prince. This piece relates to a little known factual event that two Hawaiian princes were the first people to surf in the UK in the seaside town of Bridlington in 1890. This is a fantastic story about the origins of surfing in the UK and a top-class piece of art.
- THE CRICKET BAT -
The Cricket Bat (SCC) is all out Smithtown and their first ever piece. Skilled sign writing on English willow, the kernel of what could first represent them and their idea of taking common items and transforming them with clever design.
- THE BREAKING NEWS TAPE -
The Breaking News Tap (Slowdown Continues to Accelerate) is relevant today, a statement on modern 24 news and the on-screen graphics - but you ultimately do with it what you want.
- THE SHOVEL (THE TESTING) -
The Smith Brothers reminisce and play with a very specific joke from the 1970s TV series 'Ripping Yarns', a program that they hold close to their hearts.
Forever innovating, the brothers have lots more exciting work in the pipeline, including a trainer, a t-shirt, a tea cosy and a range of posters. And with years of design experience under their belts with the likes of MTV, Nike, Speedo, and Apple it's worth watching.
